With a high number of obese cases as well as an increase in the number of incidences of type 2 diabetes among kids, many parents are today struggling to make sure their obese kids live a normal life. Although many will take this as a big challenge, there are several tips that can be used to ensure these kids are not left to suffer especially by improving their eating habits.

Support your kid

Make your child know that you love him or her and that he or she means much to you. The way you feel about your child is the same way they will feel about themselves.

Accept the weight of your child. Kids reciprocate the acceptance of parents to themselves.

Pay attention to the things that your kids tell you concerning their weight. Obese kids are possibly aware of the dangers facing them as a result of their condition more than you think. They need to be encouraged and supported by parents.

Support healthy diets

Make sure fruits and vegetables form the bulk of the meals you give to your kids. Allow your kids to pick the fruits and vegetables of their choice.

Lower the quantity of soft drinks and high fat foods you purchase. You can buy the snacks occasionally but ensure you buy more of healthy snacks.

Do not skip breakfast as it is an important meal. Failure to take your breakfast may lead to a rush for unhealthy foods during the day, and this works against all your plans.

Make sure you prepare healthy meals and eat on the table as a family. Eating food together as a family keeps the joy, making children love the meal.

Lower the quantity of fast foods you consume. Any time you visit a fast food restaurant, select healthy foods only.

Encourage your kids to drink plenty of water or low-fat milk as opposed to fruit juices as these contain more calories.

Kids may not always like the food you serve to them; it might take as many as ten times to make your kid like the food you give them. This should never discourage you.

Avoid using foods as a gift to make kids eat. It is wrong to promise kids a dessert if they accept to eat vegetables as this may imply to them that desserts are better than vegetables. Kids end up disliking foods which they think are not important.
